Bad lie in deep rough

Or, why you can’t always get where you want to get in one stroke.

When I played PGA Tour Golf on the Nintendo with my son, Joe, back in the 90s, I got all too used to the status update ‘Bad lie in deep rough’. ‘Buried in sand’ was another regular. Also, ‘The following players have not made the cut: MUM.’

Getting out of the rough was tricky and it inevitably felt like you were wasting a stroke. You had to work out how to get moving at all before you could start making more considered and nuanced decisions, from a clearer lie, about how to reach the hole.

If you’ve got a kind of ‘bad lie in deep rough’ situation going on workwise and need help reaching a clearer lie and then getting to the hole, come and talk to me.

I may not have been able to address that situation too well on the Nintendo, but I sure know how to do it in real working life.

PS Golfing analogy in honour of Jeremy Hunt and, of course, all the over 50s doing what they want, what they need, what they must or what they can, which may or may not include playing golf.
