You’re already ahead …

Keep it that way!

A 60-something friend and I were recently discussing her experience of misplaced assumptions about her capacity and capability in her workplace.

I was indignant, but she was something far more powerful: indignant and on the case.

‘I learn every new thing when it comes out’, she said, ‘so I stay ahead in my field and don’t have to ask some young colleague to explain and then patronise me.’

‘What’s more’, she continued, ‘I’ve got decades of experience and no-one I work with knows what I already know.’

How strong a combination is that?!

Moral of the story:

If you’re worried about falling behind, stop whining: do something about it.

But equally … don’t forget that you’re already well ahead. And that’s the beauty of age.

And if you want to make a change? Well, with that attitude, you’ve got the perfect mix to carry forward …
