What’s a waste of time?

Not coaching, that’s for sure. Neither for you nor for me.

Why? Because talking and sharing generates new thoughts and ideas ‘that would not otherwise have been born’, as Theodore Zeldin puts it (‘The Hidden Pleasures of Life’, 2015).

The talk in a coaching session may be all about you, but the learning and development happens to us both. We develop our thinking together, through talking and sharing. You learn more about yourself and what you want and need. And in the process of learning about you, your life and what you might do next, I also learn more about me and about lives beyond my own. We both take that learning forward into our work and our way of being in the world. We are both ongoing projects.

And if we have a sense of time running out, then rather than hurrying to get on with doing something - anything - that will make us feel like we’re not wasting our lives, we should be in a hurry to take some time out to think about our lives and how we really want to spend this next part of them.

That’s not just a sound investment, or a necessary precursor to getting on and doing something both different and valuable - that is life itself and it is no waste to spend it that way.

If you’re in a hurry to invest in your future, get in touch and let’s take some time to talk and to generate thoughts and ideas that might not otherwise be born.
